Yogurt | Curd – greek style yogurt is perfect for tahini sauce. If you only have regular yogurt on hand. Strain them using a cheese cloth to remove all the excess whey water from it. Yogurt lightens the strong sesame flavour of the tahini sauce and creates creamy smooth dipping sauce.

Tahini Paste – Tahini paste is toasted sesame seeds which is ground into a paste. It provides the required nutty taste to the sauce. You can make your own or buy readymade tahini paste.

Garlic – one of the most important ingredient in tahini sauce when combined with yogurt and lemon juice.

Lemon Juice – freshly squeezed lemon juice cuts down the strong nutty taste of tahini and mellows the garlic.

Ground Cumin – For this particular sauce I like to use roasted ground cumin. I add a tbsp of cumin seeds in a dry pan and toast for 2 to 3 minutes. I ground that using a mortar and pestle.

Extra virgin olive oil – Final drizzle of good quality extra virgin olive oil is important.

How to Use Tahini Sauce

Best Tahini for Tahini Sauce

Tahini sauce gets its main flavour and nutty taste from the tahini paste. Sourcing a good quality tahini is key to achieve the flavour. I prefer to buy Middle eastern brands of tahini in online stores. Most of the time I make my own homemade tahini which includes just sesame seeds with little olive oil.
